If “personal development” is prompted by changes in the environment we as individuals find ourselves in, and that we are ill equipped to handle, then maybe one function of “companies” is to “shield” people from those environments, a bit like parents provide shielding for children until they are considered (by convention/culture) “ready” to engage without shielding. What happens to companies when their “shielding capacity” erodes away as time and “evolutionary pressure” change their environment?
