Isn’t the ideal of our modern global economy modeled on precisely the growth pattern of Covid-19? What are we learning from that? We see the spread of the virus as a threat to our civilization. Could it be the spread of our civilization is a similar threat to something?

It was two years ago to the day that I participated in one of the two most personally changing workshops I’ve ever taken. Looking forward to seeing many from that small community in a few hours in an online call. Thanks Michael Spayd and Michele Madore, ICE-EC!

And maybe, just maybe, we’ll finally figure out that what plagues so many places that are trying to “go agile” is that they think it’s about speed. Speed is the problem behind almost every other problem. “Twice the work in half the time.” “800% productivity improvements.” No. Slow down. Focus. Think. Collaborate. Get feedback. Every “disruptive” innovation increases VUCA. Stop it.

Maybe this pandemic will finally get us to realize that we are as vulnerable as a species as ants are to footsteps treading on them. That money is not worthy of being the measure of value for almost anything. That many things that aren’t countable count for a whole lot.

If you feel inclined to lend me a small hand of support while I’m looking for work in the pandemic environment, check out this little book that Rich Valde Susan DiFabio Dan Neumann George Dinwiddie and I wrote together a few years ago. Oh, and we did it remotely, too. https://lnkd.in/gkMAPaP Feel free to contribute more than the minimum price, too #StayHome #Connect #Collaborate #RemoteWork

Here’s another small tip for conducting good virtual/online meetings: Have a way to keep a shared agenda where folks can see it all the time. If you don’t have a pre-set agenda, make sure you solicit topics and order them with input from the participants. Then make sure you take notes (collaboratively or with a designated person) and indicate clearly when each topic from the agenda is “done”. That way people who join late can see what happened and where the group is at the moment without lots of questions and interruptions. #StayHome #Collaborate #VirtualMeetings #Structure

We may all have laughed at e-sports some time ago, but I suspect right now, e-sports have a chance to make it really big (or even bigger), with people being asked to work from home, stay home, hunker down, etc. I’m also guessing that the online multiplayer servers around the world are running at almost capacity.

For those of you living in the new everybody-works-from-home world, remember to keep your human connections alive by spending a few minutes at the start of virtual meetings simply connecting. Not necessarily on the latest news that we all hear anyway, but on a few personal things. Bring in questions such as “Who is someone you really admire? What do you admire them for?” or “Who has inspired you recently, and how?” #StayHome #Collaborate #Connect #Covid19 #RemoteTeams #StayHuman

This is risky, but I’ll say it anyway. I’m at home without work. I’d be at home even if I had work, with all the necessary Coronavirus precautions. I’d rather be at home with work. Anybody out there need a listening soul, a non-reactive person to bounce ideas or concerns off of, someone to ask good questions, a co-scout on a journey of discovery? I’m only as far away as the mouse click it takes to contact me.
